Maldives Aims to Attract Japanese Travelers with Exclusive Media Trip

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC / Visit Maldives) is hosting a group of journalists from Japan for a familiarization (FAM) trip in the Maldives. The journalists are visiting from May 17th to May 24th, 2024, and will stay at three properties: Huvafen Fushi, Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru, and LUX* South Ari.

Representatives from prominent media platforms such as VOGUE Japan Online, CREA WEB, Numero Tokyo.jp, and MyNavi Woman are part of this delegation. MMPRC is enthusiastic about promoting the Maldives across multiple digital platforms, highlighting it as a safe holiday destination and enhancing brand awareness in the Japanese market. This FAM trip offers a valuable opportunity for these publications to provide their audience with firsthand experiences of the Maldives’ luxury and wellness retreats.

The MMPRC aims to refine its marketing strategies for the Japanese market by building destination awareness and showcasing the diverse tourism offerings in the Maldives to Japanese travel trade and travelers. The focus is on targeting trend-conscious, young affluent individuals and those aspiring to a high-quality lifestyle. Through this trip, MMPRC seeks to promote not only hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards but also the unique experiences available to tourists in the Maldives.

Earlier this year, Visit Maldives was recognized in the “Marine Diving Awards 2023,” securing 3rd place in the “Best Area Overseas Division” and 2nd place in the “Best Overseas Destination I Want to Visit for the First Time,” as voted by divers nationwide in Japan. MMPRC aims to maintain this presence and position the Maldives as the top travel destination. As of April 2024, Japan ranks 13th in market arrivals, with 9,333 arrivals, accounting for a 1.5% market share.

MMPRC is committed to marketing the Maldives as a premier destination worldwide. This year, the corporation has conducted various marketing activities in global markets, including fairs, roadshows, familiarization trips, marketing campaigns, webinars, and interviews.
